If your clients are exploring travel insurance solutions to cover holidays booked for later this year or next, of principle concern will be if the policy covers Coronavirus. Can I still sell Alpha’s travel products?
Yes, absolutely! Many people have future holidays secured and although there will not be any cover in place while the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all but essential travel, policy benefits will kick in as soon as these restrictions are lifted. Please note, at this current time Alpha are only able to offer Cruise Cover on a small number of products with limited benefits.
My customer’s holiday has been moved; how do they stand?
Existing policyholders can transfer their cover to new travel dates provided departure is within eighteen months from the original purchase date. Additional premium costs may apply depending on date of departure, destination, trip duration and any changes in health since taking out the original policy.
Do Alpha policies cover medical treatment for Coronavirus?
Should the policyholder require emergency medical treatment whilst on a trip abroad due to Coronavirus, they will be able to claim providing all pre-existing medical conditions were disclosed and that they have acted in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy, and not travelled against the advice of the FCO. The amount covered varies from £2m to £10m depending on the level of cover purchased. Customers should be aware that there is no cover for medical expenses incurred in private medical facilities where confirmed medically capable public facilities are available.
How does Covid-19 affect Cancellation Cover?
Alpha’s policies do not cover cancellation or any other claims except for emergency medical treatment abroad as a result of Covid-19 or any strain/mutation of Coronavirus, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-COV-2), or any pandemic or fear or threat of any of the above.
My customer’s holiday has been cancelled, what advice do I give them?
If your customers’ travel plans are disrupted by Coronavirus, they should contact their tour operator or airline to request a refund or to arrange alternative travel options.
What if a policyholder no longer wants to travel due to the risk of Coronavirus?
Unless the FCO has advised against all but essential travel to the insured destination, Alpha’s policies will not cover for any losses if the insured person decides not to travel. However, it may be possible to transfer payment to a new trip/holiday direct with the tour operator or airline.
