Mathew Scott

24th June 2020

Taking to the hot seat this June is Mathew Scott, Head of Sales at Kindertons Accident Management, a leading provider of automotive accident management and mobility solutions

In a short sentence, tell us what you do in your current role?

As Head of Sales, I manage all the field sales staff at Kindertons, combining our time between organic growth, managing relationships and exploring new business relationships. I report directly into our Group Sales Director, Christian Lindley, and it’s an exciting time to be part of the Group.

Did you choose the insurance profession, or did it choose you?

Great question! I feel you must ‘choose the profession’ whatever it is then you have more passion and enthusiasm for it, gets you out of bed each morning. I did choose insurance fresh out of University, I have worn a few different hats, but always remained in the sector.

What is something that people are obsessed with, but you just don’t get?

I will say ‘jogging’, you cannot move for joggers now…I just don’t get it, it is so boring. People track it on an app then post it online to prove they have been jogging.

What is your biggest frustration with modern technology?

At the moment it has to be WiFi speed and ‘your data is running low’ warnings. We are so reliant on connectivity anyway let alone in current climate with everyone using remote working. Video calls that are buffering or losing connection due to fibre are the worst.

What do you do when you’re not working?

Currently it is feeding the ducks, Disney, going to Sainsbury’s and going for a walk.

But usually, because I work long hours, I love to holiday, love going to Portugal, but the big miss at the moment is dining out with friends and their families on a Saturday or Sunday. Makes a weekend for me!

What was the last book you read, or movie/box set you watched?

I was fascinated by ‘The Last Dance’ on Netflix…Even if you do not like Basketball it is fascinating on so many levels, genuinely inspiring and Michael Jordan is the epitome of determination and self-belief.

Who’s your go-to band or artist when you can’t decide what music to listen to?

Due to current climate I have no time to listen to music as I am not driving anywhere, but if I get 30 minutes and the opportunity I tend to go with a Podcast. Anything from ‘The GaryVee Audio Experience’ which gets the lightbulbs working business wise to ‘That Peter Crouch Podcast’ which is a really easy listen based around football stories past and present.

Past or present, which five guests would you invite to your dream dinner party?

Such a hard question, but I would still pick:

  • Frank Sinatra for the music
  • Rick Stein for the food
  • Steven Fry for the stories
  • Oz Clarke for the wine
  • Steve Horner for the laughs and stories

What is on your bucket list?

I have never been to the Maldives which is on there for my 40th birthday with the family and I want to go to the Monaco Grand Prix, not massively into F1 but the event looks incredible and something to tick off for sure. The final thing, probably the biggest achievement, would be for Rich Harrison to pay me a compliment, that’s the real goal.

Finally, why is it a great time for brokers to consider a conversation with Kindertons as lockdown eases?

It is always a great time for brokers to use Kindertons and the wider ExamWorks Group, but even more so during and post COVID/lockdown, as throughout the pandemic we have maintained our award-winning customer journey and continued to achieve our market leading NPS scores. We have helped thousands of brokers’ policyholders in their time of need whilst taking all the necessary precautions that COVID demands.

At Kindertons, our main aim is to assist the broker in adding value to their core motor policy, by offering a suite of A-rated insurance add-on products alongside our already comprehensive claims service. We don’t just provide a service to our brokers, we work in partnership with them and make sure we are strategically aligned, whether that be in technology, insurer relations or our post PI reform strategy.
