In a few sentences, tell us about your business?
We are proud to have spent 31 years on the High Street as a general insurance broker, serving the local community and customers nationally.
What positives - or new ways of working - have you taken from the pandemic period?
The pandemic has allowed us to work from home, splitting the office staff in half and only going into the office on alternate days to keep us all COVID secure. Zoom has been a great tool to keep in contact with each other and the insurers, which has been good, as it feels like you are still seeing people.
What top tips can you share to stay focused and productive when working from home?
Rather than phoning work colleagues, do it via Zoom or Teams as face-to-face contact is much better for our mental health.
In the past few months, what is the smallest change you have made which has had the biggest impact?
Always keep the fridge supplied with chocolate for the staff!
What do you enjoy most about working in insurance broking?
Placing difficult risks to assist the clients.
What worries you the most about the future of insurance broking?
The data that Amazon holds on customers and the size of the company, if they decide to venture into our industry it could become a massive problem.
If you could work in any other industry apart from insurance broking, what would it be and why?
Travel – I’d love to be paid to travel the world!
If you could offer one piece of advice to someone just starting out in the industry, what would it be?
Our business is all about personal relationships, so at every opportunity meet the underwriter in person (when we can), as you never know when you might need some expert advice or help in the future
