This month we caught up with Ian Weir, Director of Calcluth & Sangster, one of the top ten insurance brokers in the west of Scotland, established in 1979.
What core business lines does your brokerage cover?
Commercial insurance including a club scheme, household including HNW
How do you generate new business enquiries?
Most new business comes from referrals from existing customer base, cross-selling to existing clients and revisiting lapsed policies.
What do you foresee as the biggest challenges at your brokerage at the moment?
Our biggest challenge at the moment is keeping pace with compliance legislation and also trying to recruit quality people to develop our business.
How do you plan to grow in the coming year?
Continue on same basis as before which has been reasonably successful. Referrals from existing Clients, cross-selling and possibly a small acquisition.
What are your marketing plans this year?
Continue to work with existing clients on referrals and work harder at cross-selling to existing clients. Possibly an upgrade to website?
Which Blink products or services have been most beneficial to your business?
ABACUS and Instant Underwriting have been very helpful. Also Just Travel Cover who we started to use this year have been very good.
If there’s one thing we’d like more of from Blink it’s...
Nothing really – keep up the good work and advise us of any new schemes which would assist us.
