Broker Spotlight
This month we caught up with John France, Director of Premier Insurance Centre

05th November 2019

This month we caught up with John France, Director of Premier Insurance Centre based in Winsford, Cheshire. Established in 1992, the brokerage has been servicing the insurance needs of the local community.

What core business lines does your brokerage cover?

Premier was set up initially by my business partner, Karl Holland, who specialised in personal lines. I joined a little over eight years ago and looked to expand the commercial business starting with a motor trade book. We have developed in several other markets now and are starting to grow a reasonable property portfolio to balance off the motor book.

How do you generate new business enquiries?

The business was established nearly thirty years ago and is well known in the area, we receive a steady supply of referrals and we look to cross-sell whenever the opportunity arises.

What do you foresee as the biggest challenges at your brokerage at the moment?

Like everyone else, regulatory burden and recruiting the right people are always the challenges faced by the more remote small to mid-sized brokers such as ourselves.

How do you plan to grow in the coming year?

We are using home workers for more and more roles; this allows us to throw our net a little further when it comes to looking for talent. We have found being able to take on some home workers has reduced the challenge in finding the right staff.

What are your marketing plans this year?

We will do what we have always done well, a little local advertising, referral incentives, asking for introductions from existing clients and emphasising our ethos of “Service from Start to Finish”. At the same time we are starting to embrace the digital world, looking to improve our online profile and advertise through social media.

We are looking to develop new websites that will enable us to create online pipelines for new business. It’s not just police officers that are getting younger, so are the business owners we are dealing with and many will happily buy insurance online.

Which Blink products or services have been most beneficial to your business?

The Blink team have provided several new markets that we simply would not have known about or had access to without them.

Whilst we knew how good R&Q could be, the Blink team helped us to develop a better working relationship with the local office in recent years and we now regularly secure business we would not have been able to pick up in the past.

If there’s one thing we’d like more of from Blink it’s...

I would be interested to read Richard’s farming tips; I hear it’s tough on those Dales!
