Call to Action

27th November 2019

A call to action (CTA) is an important component of digital marketing. In fact, blogging and other content marketing efforts cannot be fully capitalised on without the inclusion of CTAs. So, what exactly are call to actions and why are they so important in helping boost conversion rates?

What is a call to action?

A call to action is essentially a snippet of information that is designed to motivate an audience to take real action towards becoming a client or customer. This marketing tactic is an extremely effective way to prompt an immediate response or sale from audiences.

Some common examples of CTAs might be an “Add to Cart” button on an ecommerce site, a “Free Trial Sign-Up” button on a promotion or a “Download Whitepaper” button on a landing page. While different in their description and request, every CTA has a shared goal of getting visitors to click and complete a conversion.

Why are CTAs important?

Businesses that blog are likely to drive an average of 55% more visitors to their site than their competitors who don’t blog. Though without including a concise and compelling CTA within a blog or landing page, typically at the end, blogging and other content marketing efforts run the risk of being significantly less effective.

Including at least one CTA within a marketing campaign persuades visitors to take the action you want them to take, meaning you convert your audience from essentially being “unknown visitors” into quantifiable leads. Not only are CTAs a vital way to boost lead conversions on websites, but such is the prevalence of CTAs, that customers have come to expect them. Visitors who have got to the end of your blog or landing page, expect to see a CTA that invites them to take the next step. The fact that they’ve bothered reading your blog means they are interested in engaging with your brand, so failing to include a CTA will confuse your audience, make your content look bare and flat, not to mention essentially blow your chances of sealing a conversion.

By placing a CTA on your marketing content, you are creating a final hook that inspires your audience to take the next step towards becoming a paying customer.

A call to action is the finishing touch to any type of content and should never be ignored.

All marketing and advertising must be an accurate description of the product or service. It must be legal, decent, truthful, honest and socially responsible (not encouraging illegal, unsafe or anti-social behaviour). There are regulations which restrict what you can and cannot do. As well as the regulations, there are two advertising codes of practice which you need to follow to help you advertise legally. Before you embark upon any marketing, please ensure your communications are fully compliant.
