All about Bill…
This month is extra special as we announce the retirement of Bill Broom, our esteemed Business Development Manager for the Midlands West and Wales territory. From the inception of our business, Bill has played an integral part in shaping the success and growth of our company. Bill's contribution has not only strengthened our business relationships, but has also left an indelible mark on the entire team.
As Bill moves into his well-deserved retirement, we want to express our deepest gratitude for his hard work, professionalism, and the positive impact he has had on our organisation. His dedication and passion for the industry have been truly inspirational, and he leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered fondly by colleagues and clients alike.

I’ve known Bill since my days at Bexhill, from the day I met him I knew he was one of the nicest people I have ever met! Probably because he was helping me set up my stand at BIBA! No, on a serious note, Bill is one of the most helpful, thoughtful and genuine people I know. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with him, not sure what I will do without him. During lockdown, Glastonbury attempted to stream live which Bill and I tried to navigate in a flurry of panicky texts. Eventually, we gave up and Bill introduced my husband and I to “Daryl’s House” on YouTube that my husband enjoys watching to this day [ad infinitum ….]. Thanks Bill! We’ve often chatted about holidays and music and I mentioned that my son was in his neck of the woods over August Bank Holiday at a rave festival. When I accidentally pocket dialled Bill that weekend, he immediately called me to back in case my son needed his help. My son and I still refer to that genuine act of kindness.

Back in 2015 at a BDM meeting in the Cotswolds Bill lost his cool. Richard Harrison was questioning his sales on a household/legal expenses product (I can’t remember which). Bill is a very principled guy and if he didn’t believe in a product he just wouldn’t sell it. In the evening Richard put Bill’s glasses on a stuffed stoat, as he thought it was a good resemblance of Bill during the meeting that day (showing his teeth).Bill is a really lovely bloke. He used to own his own brokerage and came to my attention in 2001. Bill’s reputation was one of honesty and hard work and over the years that hasn’t changed. He will be missed by all of us who have had the pleasure of working with him and I personally wish him a long and healthy retirement. He’s earned it. I’m sure he won’t miss driving up and down the M6.

Bill took over from me in the Birmingham area in about 2010. I thought I had done a good job of working with our Insurers and brokers but I’m delighted to say Bill took it to a new level. I could tell from a very early stage that he was going to do it his way and what a fantastic way that has proved to be. Committed, very hard-working, passionate and above all professional are words I would use to describe the way Bill has gone about looking after our broker and Insurer clients.

I’ve worked with Bill for over 20 years since our days at HSBC. He’s a lovely man and a true gentleman who always shows appreciation even for the small things you do for him - he has been a real pleasure to work with. I hope his retirement allows him to enjoy some more time with his grandchildren and to go on lots of holidays…That’s unless he’s putting himself forward for the Liverpool job! Wishing Bill a very long and happy retirement.

Pretty much every broker I speak to knows Bill and has had a beer with him at some time. I would say that he has a wealth of knowledge and experience but everyone would know this anyway. I will miss Bill’s many amusing stories he has. I can’t tell you any though as I won’t be able to use them going forward.

What can I say about Bill aka ‘Wirral Bill’ aka ‘The Stoat’ as Carol alluded above. His integrity, work ethic, drive and spirited tenacity will leave an indelible mark on us all as a team and his absence will be deeply felt. I for sure, will miss my daily banter with Bill and have some fantastic memories in his company, one in particular involving brokers, Liverpool city centre, alcohol and a bucking bronco rodeo bull, what goes on tour….
A true gent: you could not find a more kind, thoughtful and generous human being than Bill. Bill, may your days be filled with endless laughter, spontaneous adventures (chasing those grandchildren)!! and more leisure than you know what to do with. If you find yourself missing BDM life, join the M6 for an hour or so, that should cure any lingering nostalgia. Wishing you my heartfelt congratulations on your well-earned retirement and remember you promised to keep our traditional BIBA and Expo set up dates in your diary post-retirement! Enjoy and thank you for everything.

Working with Bill has been a pleasure, a true gentleman who is always happy to help when anyone needs it, and always has a smile and laugh, unless he is angry and then he is referred to as the ferret!
