Welcome to this month's edition of Guess Who, where we interview an insurance industry expert, asking our favourite questions to get to know them a little better!
In a short sentence, tell us what you do in your current role at Arya Underwriting Services?
My role at Arya is to oversee the underwriting both on and offline, with assistance from my colleague Steve McNally, to ensure we are sending competitive quotes out promptly for target business and addressing broker queries.
How would your work colleagues describe you in three words?
I would hope approachable, knowledgeable and also accident prone!
What motivates you to work hard?
I am lucky that I enjoy what I do so that helps. After having previous jobs (a long time ago) where I was waiting for the clock to hit 5pm I have been fortunate that I have not felt this way since I started in insurance 21 years ago. I like to give as good a service as possible to our brokers and customers and also enjoy the challenge to beat previous figures be it last month or last year.
You’re on a work night out at the local karaoke bar…what song are you singing?
Keep On Moving by 5ive. Don’t ask!
Where is your dream destination to live when you retire?
Somewhere by the sea. Possibly on the east coast.
If you could offer one piece of advice to someone just starting out in the industry, what would it be?
Answer your phone! Underwriters in particular are hard to contact these days. If you actually answer your phone you will make yourself stand out and form relationships.
What motivational quote most resonates with you?
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” -Albert Einstein. Unfortunately I have seen this approach by management at various companies a number of times.
Finally, why is it a great time for brokers to consider a conversation with Arya Underwriting Services?
We have a friendly approachable team and we are expanding our product range. It might be that what a broker wants we don’t have right now, but a conversation with us might mean that it’s the next product we build.
