Welcome to this month’s edition of Guess Who. We are delighted to introduce you to a friendly face at Hoxton Insurance Services. As always, we ask our favourite questions to get to know them a little better!
In a short sentence, tell us what you do in your current role at Hoxton?
Well, as a Insurtech start-up my role involves a little bit of everything. First, I help to manage the Hoxton IT Platform, and ensure it’s continually improving to meet our brokers’ needs. I also underwrite more complex risks, review policy wordings, manage broker relationships and generally get involved with most aspects of the business.
How would your work colleagues describe you in three words?
Dedicated. Straightforward. Enthusiastic.
What motivates you to work hard?
I really like Hoxton’s mission. We’re reshaping something (Mid-High Net Worth Personal Lines) that has always been rigid and fixed – not only are we a tech-disrupter in the market, but we maintain a personal touch (you can always pick up the phone to me or my team). I love that we’re moving historically complex, highly manual Insurance into the modern digital world. I’m proud of our work to offer digital, highly-automated transactions and our ethos of being completely open about what we do (and don’t do) and what we can (and can’t) offer. What’s not to like?
You’re on a work night out at the local karaoke bar…what song are you singing?
I can’t sing (and you really wouldn’t want to hear me try), so I would say, all songs sound like a cat screeching!
Where is your dream destination to live when you retire?
Bali. I visited this incredible country before Covid and can’t wait to go back. The people, food, weather and CrossFit (yes, I’m one of those people) make it a great all year destination.
If you could offer one piece of advice to someone just starting out in the industry, what would it be?
Be yourself, and do so unashamedly.
What motivational quote most resonates with you?
“Focus on being productive instead of busy.” ?Tim Ferriss – people spend to long complaining about being busy rather than being time smart.
